"competitive situation". The director took to Twitter to
    announce his excitement.

    Mike Flanagan (@flanaganfilm)
"I see you brought the fire..." This project
has been a dream of mine since I was a
teenager. I'm so excited to be collaborating
with my brother James, and my partner in
crime @IntrepidPix on this epic horror movie
    - in space - for @UniversalPics.

Mike Flanagan will follow up Doctor Sleep and his current
Christopher Pike series The Midnight Club with directing
duties on the feature The Season of Passage. He will also
pen the script along with James Flanagan. They will
produce along with Intrepid Pitcures producing partner
Trevor Macy. Christopher Pike, the writer of the science
fiction horror novel set on Mars, will executive produce
along with Melissa Nishioka. Additionally overseeing for
the studio are  Universal's SVP of Production Ryan Jones
and Director of Development Christine Sun.

Plot synopsis of The Season of Passage: "Dr. Lauren Wagner
was a celebrity. She was involved with the most exciting
adventure mankind had ever undertaken: a manned expedition
to Mars. The whole world admired and respected her. But
Lauren knew fear. Inside―voices entreating her to love
them. Outside―the mystery of the missing group that had
gone before her. The dead group. But were they simply
dead? Or something else? A haunting and unforgettable
blend of science fiction, fantasy, horror, and suspense
from one of America's bestselling writers. A novel you
    won't soon forget."
